Our Land

Sunshine Bay Retreat sits on 24 acres of nature-packed beauty on the shores of crystal-clear Kootenay Lake. Escape to one of our newly renovated units: the Shop, the Eagle Suite or the Osprey Suite. Sink into luxury linens, and starry, quiet nights. Take full advantage of 200 feet of private beach, our mountainside meditation pond, and organic gardens, orchard.

Guests have access to bicycles, helmets, a canoe, and water toys, as well as our new 20×24 floating dock where you can do yoga in the morning sun and watch Kokanee salmon swim below.

Make sure to say hello to our resident llamas, Diego and Azurine. If you’re lucky, you might get a llama kiss!

Sunshine Bay Retreat is in a peaceful, rural area that features great biking roads and hiking trails, majestic, mountain and lake views, and the quaint village bakery renown for its cinnamon buns. Sunshine Bay Park is a short hike through the forest, where you can watch eagle and osprey put on aerial displays or enjoy a picnic at the playground.

Beach

The pristine water of Kootenay Lake provides spectacular opportunities for exploration! We have 200 feet of private waterfront, featuring a sandy beach, and a brand new 20” x 24” dock. Guests are welcome to use the Adirondack chairs and picnic table, folding beach chairs, and the water toys marked “Guest” (1 canoe, 2 sit on top kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard, blow-up “floaties”). There is also a rustic outhouse at the Beach. To access the Beach, cross Harrop-Procter Road and follow the path directly opposite our driveway, to the Railroad tracks. Exercise great caution when crossing the tracks, as this is an active railway, and trains come by twice a day (no schedule). Continue down the path to the Beach.

The Organic Garden and Orchard

Stroll up the long driveway past our family home to our beautiful garden and greenhouse. We’re growing blueberries, garlic and a host of vegetables and flowers, which you are welcome to sample in season. In our orchard (besides the Shop and above the Garden) we have apples, pears, plums, walnuts, and one special apricot tree. When the fruit is ripe, help yourself!

Yoga & Meditation Pond

This is a special place for contemplation and reflection. Continue up the driveway, past the garden, towards the forest and mountains. Our meditation pond, stone sitting circle, and fire pit are to the right, marked by 2 tall birch trees. The pond is fed by our own Greenwood Creek, the source of our delicious water. It’s a great place to just be with the sound of rushing water and sweet breezes.

Nature, Hikes & Walks

You’re welcome to continue up the mountain path following Greenwood Creek and the old logging road through our magical forest, or head all the way down Harrop-Procter Road to Kootenay Lake Village and explore the hiking trails there. Check out the hiking book in each unit for information on the numerous hikes in our area.

Clear Water. Fresh Air. Solid Ground.

A lakefront luxury getaway for those in search of tranquility… and llamas.
